I Resolve To® . . . Challenge Video - Holiday Fun!

The holiday season is upon us and I would like to take this opportunity to share some of my favorite Daily Resolves for the Holidays - small daily steps that can promote good health and happiness over time.  In the seven years that I have studied and practiced what works and what doesn't work for making and keeping New Year Resolutions, I have learned over and over again that a simple strategy and clarity of purpose promotes success.  Add in a healthy dose of common sense and a willingness to roll up your sleeves and work hard each and every day, and you will make your resolutions a reality.

Most important - as you revel in holiday activities this month - set aside time to look back and review what you achieved in 2011.  Celebrate your successes, learn from your mistakes and begin plotting a course for 2012. Don't wait until New Year's Eve to begin thinking about what you would love to 'do, be, achieve, and experience' in the coming year.  The biggest mistake that you can make is to jot down an alcohol-induced list of things that you hate about yourself and your life (and would love to change) at the stroke of midnight.  Instead consider a more practical and positive alternative - thoughtfully pursue a passion, a dream - that one thing that promotes a sense of joy that you would truly 'love to do' each and every day.

A big lesson that I have learned in my seven year journey - being reasonable in your expectations and your approach reduces frustration, fear and a sense of being overwhelmed.  Treat your New Year Resolution like a marathon - one small step after another will eventually take you to the finish line.  It won't happen overnight and it won't be easy - there will be plenty of obstacles - but you will 'finish' with a sense of joy and achevement if you build a plan, make weekly course corrections and persist with patience day after day!

If you don't think you're ready to tackle a huge dream - start small by joining me in my Fourth Annual I Resolve To . . . Challenge:  365 Resolutions For Health & Happiness.  The objective is very simple:  Do at least one thing each and every day to promote health and happiness for 'YOU'.  Banish the 'Someday, Someday, Someday Syndrome'.  Instead, make every day New Year's Day.  Make every day count with 'Daily Resolves'.  The list of possibilities is infinite and can be tailored to your own dreams, resolutions and daily goals.  If you need some help - a little nudge, a bit of inspiration, tips, advice, and news about the best ways to make resolutions a reality - please use IResolveTo.Com as one of your resources.  To see my personal 'Health & Happiness Tapestry', click through my 2009-2012 Photo-Resolutions, each one documents my journey toward greater health and happiness!  Resolve365 in 2012.

I Resolve To® . . . Challenge Video - Summer Fun!

They say a picture is worth a thousand words - here are some of my favorite 'Daily Resolves' taken from my health and happiness tapestry (photo resolutions that chronicle my daily journey toward good health and happiness).  We just passed the mid-point in the year, why not start down your own path toward greater health and happiness.  You don't have to wait for the New Year to make a resolution or begin working toward a dream - start right now during the wonderful 'dog days of summer'.

I love making and keeping New Year Resolutions - in fact, 2011 marks the seventh year of my effort to learn and practice the most effective ways to make resolutions a reality without turning your life upside down or marrying a millionaire.  One lesson that I have learned:  small daily steps toward health, happiness and personal dreams add up to big results over time.  Instead of making a long list of things that you hate about yourself, and your life (which you will promptly ignore) devote your time and attention to all the things that bring joy to your life and promote a sense of well being and accomplishment.

With that in mind,  consider joining me in my Third Annual I Resolve To . . To see my personal 'Health & Happiness Tapestry', click through my 2009-2011 Photo-Resolutions, each one documents my journey toward greater health and happiness!  Resolve365 in 2011.

I Resolve To® . . . Use July 4 and Mid-Year To Breathe New Life Into Dreams! - Day 184

SunriseJuly3

How will you remember today?  Did you spend your precious time wisely, or did you squander it with procrastination and doubt?  I love each 'new day' as much as I love January 1 the start of the 'New Year'.  Each new day, like each New Year, provides  opportunities - and in turn choices to be made about how to advance dreams toward eventual success.

There is a fine line that separates failure from success, winners from losers.  Which side of the line will you inhabit today, tomorrow, the next day?  Will you seize upon opportunities, as you 'Seize the Day?'  Carpe Diem!  Or will you let these chances to accomplish hearts desires slip through stretched fingers like sand falling in an hour glass - each grain marking an achievement, or a lost opportunity?  These are among the questions that I try keep in mind when the sun peeks over the horizon and I start the day.  Each day, if viewed as a wonderful gift, can move us steps closer to greater health, joy and happiness.  The catch is that we have to be willing to plan creatively, work hard and take small daily steps toward realistic goals - over the long haul.

With this theme in mind, July 4 is a wonderful time of the year - like New Year's Day - to take stock of where we are in life; assess how we are doing with our dreams and goals.  Maybe it is time to consider dusting off a New Year Resolution that you would love to achieve, or think about making course corrections in your game plan if you are stuck.  I'm doing just that this weekend.

I am performing my own 'Mid-Year Check In' and moving forward with purpose as I 'Embrace Each New Sunrise With Hope And Optimism'.  It is all a part of my Third Annual I Resolve To . . . Challenge:  365 Resolutions For Health & Happiness.  Why not join me?  The objective is very simple:  Do at least one thing each and every day to promote health and happiness for 'YOU'.  Banish the 'Someday, Someday, Someday Syndrome'.  Instead, make every day New Year's Day.  Make every day count with 'Daily Resolves'.  The list of possibilities is infinite and can be tailored to your own dreams, resolutions and daily goals.  If you need some help - a little nudge, a bit of inspiration, tips, advice, and news about the best ways to make resolutions a reality - please use IResolveTo.Com as one of your resources.  To see my personal 'Health & Happiness Tapestry', click through my 2009-2011 Photo-Resolutions, each one documents my journey toward greater health and happiness!  Resolve365 in 2011.

To better organize myself, each weekend I am posting a Daily Resolve 'To Do List' - at least seven resolutions from my 'Health & Happiness Tapestry' that I plan to achieve, and I will undoubtedly throw in some new ones along the way.  My Daily Resolve 'To Do List' is one more way to focus and track the small daily steps that I take toward health and happiness.  For decades, I have tracked my dreams, resolutions and daily resolves in my journal and on my calendars with colorful stars. Here are the 'Daily Resolve' highlights for the week:

I RESOLVE TO . . .

  1. Remember to slather on sunscreen (check).
  2. Float in the pool and watch white clouds roll by in blue sky (check).
  3. Visit my top favorite book store and peruse all the new titles (check).
  4. Snack on fresh fruit - grapes, nectarines, apples, and bananas (check).
  5. Let my creativity flow in writing and photography - write, write, write (check).
  6. Listen to the birds sing joyous songs and stop to smell the July flowers during long walks through favorite neighborhoods (check).
  7. Proudly be original and unique in my creativity and be flattered rather than offended when others take my concepts and ideas and claim them as their own (success will eventually ring hollow and cannot be sustained without originality and creativity) (check)!!

The whole purpose of Daily Resolves is to mindfully inject a small bits of joy and healthy habits into each and every day.  The small daily steps do add up to big results over time because they are concrete and manageable (which helps to eliminate the fear factor and sense of being overwhelmed).  That said, what is really important is 'right now' - enjoying each and every moment of the journey toward health, happiness and making dreams a reality!

I Resolve To® . . . Live Mindfully And With Passion! - Day 156

LoveAPlaceJune-5

Have you ever fallen in love with a place?  Perhaps embraced a city that you explored while on vacation - or maybe find enormous joy in your hometown, or the city where you now live?  I have found one of the greatest joys in my life and an on-going source of happiness is my home and the city that I call home.  I have lived in a number of places over the years that I truly adored - I fell in love with Washington, DC for instance, and spent a decade living and working in the nation's capital.  I was fortunate to find my dream home quickly in 1993 when I moved to the city - the very first loft condominium that I viewed was love at first sight and I spent many happy years in Adams Morgan.

Alas, I eventually yearned for a city with a midwest look and feel (I grew up in Omaha, Nebraska).  After a lengthy search in 2002-2003, I found my next dream home, and community, in Fredericksburg, Virginia - a place that is filled with history and kind, wonderful people.  I, again, am in love with a place.  Just as I adored walking the neighborhoods of DC (and still do), I passionately explore Fredericksburg, its neighborhoods and battlefields, by foot, often with my camera (walking and photography are twin passions that enable me to wander with a sense of fun and creative purpose).

I strive to inject small bits of joy and happiness - like loving a place - into each and every day.  Sometimes the most satisfying joys are derived from simple and ordinary things and places. With that in mind, I intend to 'Fall In Love With A Place', as part of my Third Annual I Resolve To . .
